Access to Energy Institute (A2EI) is a non-profit organization that supports R&D across the PAYG and off-grid energy sectors by conducting on-the-ground research and co-developing products that can be brought to market by industry players.

The Access to Energy Institute (A2EI) was founded in Berlin, Germany with a handful of ex-Mobisol employees and had its first official kick-off call in October 2018. In its wake, the Access to Energy Lab (A2E Lab) was incepted under KAKUTE Projects Co. Ltd. (KPCL) and began full operation in November 2018 in Arusha, Tanzania with a team of five staff.

A2E Lab’s first projects include working on a solar welding machine and conducting research around development of a solar-powered generator replacement.
